The Future of Apprenticeships in England,’ originally released by the government in October 2013, set out a new vision for apprenticeships. The new Trailblazer approach aims to increase the quality of apprenticeships and simplify things for everyone involved. A key part of the reforms is also to make apprenticeships employer-led – putting them in the driving seat of exactly what's required from an apprentice in each specific role.
The new Trailblazer apprenticeships consist of a role-specific standard and an assessment plan. Other documents may also be produced for guidance, but they're not mandatory.
The standards outline the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to carry out a certain job role.
Most of the Apprenticeship Standards don’t have mandatory qualifications so employers and training providers can deliver the teaching and learning in any way they wish. Continuing to deliver qualifications helps to provide a framework for delivery and ensures your apprentices achieve high quality, transferable outcomes. With this in mind we have looked at our qualifications alongside the new standards to show where the content might support teaching and learning – this is just an indication and you’re free to pick and choose the units (or qualification) that suit your apprentices’ needs.
