You’ll see that we’ve introduced a larger Diploma to the new qualification suite; this has been developed in response to requests from centres to expand our provision of these wide-ranging qualifications.
Funding eligibility
There is funding available for the Level 2 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Occupational Studies for the Workplace for learners aged pre-16 and 16-18 and these qualifications all appear on Section 96. The Level 2 Award in Exploring Occupational Studies for the Workplace doesn’t currently appear on Section 96 as this was accredited by Ofqual later than the others, but we fully expect it to appear on the next update due at the end of November 2013.
Unfortunately, these qualifications aren’t funded for 19+ learners. The previous versions of these qualifications were also not fundable for 19+ so the SFA have already confirmed they are unable to fund these replacement qualifications and we are not able to challenge this.
The qualifications are accessible to a wide range of learners aged pre-16 and above. The qualifications are tailored to give learners an introduction to specific careers, offering a taster of particular occupational areas. The Occupational Studies suite is intended to be accessible to all learners of all abilities with the core aim of giving learners a platform upon which to further develop their skills and learning, helping to provide the building blocks towards apprenticeships.
Important information
These qualifications replace the following existing NCFE Occupational Studies qualifications. The last registration date for these qualifications is 31 October 2013 and the last certification date is 31 October 2015.

The Qualification Specifications (Version 1, October 2013) for the new qualifications will be available in the Support Material section of each qualification page.
We’ve also produced a summary document for the new qualifications, that identifies which units from the existing qualifications have been replaced and which have equivalent units. This will be available on our website alongside the Qualification Specification.
Progression opportunities
Following the successful completion of these qualifications, learners may progress to work-based learning and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to demonstrate competency through NVQs/CBQs. Progression to further learning within the FE sector is also possible and there are many qualifications available to learners that offer them a broad choice of options.
Approvals and DCS
Any centres that currently have approval and/or DCS for the existing Level 2 Occupational Studies qualifications will have these automatically transferred to the new replacement qualifications.
