NCFE launch Amplification Guides at ‘All things Functional Curriculum Conference’

Wednesday 05 June 2013

Functional Skills qualifications are still a very much debated topic in education, and further clarification and information is still wanted and needed amongst those who are delivering these qualifications.

To help provide further information and clarification the ‘All things Functional Curriculum Conference’, being held on the 14 June at the Paragon Hotel in Birmingham, will provide up-to-date knowledge of new products, new approaches and new policies, with presentations from education leaders.

As sponsors of the event, NCFE will be launching our new Functional Skills Amplification Guides.  These guides have been developed from customer feedback and have been produced for Entry 3, Level 1 and 2 for all of the Functional Skills subjects:  Maths, English and ICT.  The guides are designed to act as an expansion to Ofqual’s standards, providing further clarification in an easy to use format.

The guides will show how the standards are tested in the Functional Skills questions and their mark schemes using the NCFE sample assessments as examples.  They’ll explain how the coverage and range is developed, using the adult core curricula to add detail as to what should be taught for each range statement.  As well as illustrate the coverage and range with practical examples of how they are used in life and work.

Also at the event, you’ll be able to:

  • Listen to expert speakers talk about Functional Skills policy, the new Common Inspection Framework and funding
  • Hear case studies on Ofsted inspection from work based and college providers
  • Consider approaches to delivering Functional Skills with apprentices and adults in the workplace
  • Review assessment practices in English, Mathematics and ICT
  • Model approaches to delivering Functional Skills as part of Study Programmes, Traineeships and Apprenticeships
  • Consider how to use the new English and Mathematics QCF units and qualifications to prepare learners to access Functional Skills qualifications
