These qualifications will be available from Friday 27 September.
You’ll see that we’ve introduced some new larger Diploma qualifications to the new qualifications, these have been developed in response to requests from centres to expand our provision of these wide-ranging qualifications.
Funding eligibility
In August the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) launched an interim process for approving qualifications for funding. Awarding Organisations now need to apply for funding with supporting evidence that the qualifications meet one or more of the set criteria. We have made an application to the SFA for the new EL and L1 qualifications but they are only considered on a monthly basis so we’re waiting to hear the decision. We do expect these qualifications to receive funding as they’re a direct replacement of the existing qualifications but we’ll confirm this as soon as we have further information.
Target audience
The qualifications are intended to be accessible to a wide range of learners aged pre-16 and above. The qualifications are tailored to give learners an introduction to specific careers, offering a taster of particular occupational areas. The Occupational Studies suite is intended to be accessible to all learners of all abilities with the core aim to give learners a platform upon which to further develop their skills and learning, helping to provide the building blocks towards apprenticeships.
Important information
These qualification replace the existing NCFE Occupational Studies qualifications which are available until the following dates:

The Qualification Specifications (Version 1, September 2013) for the new qualifications will be available on our website www.ncfe.org.uk from 27 September 2013. We’ve also produced free blank Learner Evidence Tracker Log (LETLs) to help learners keep track of their work.
We’ve also produced a summary document for the new qualifications which identifies which units have been replaced from the existing qualifications and which have equivalent units. This will be available on our website alongside the Qualification Specification and LETL.
Progression opportunities
Following the successful completion of these qualifications, learners may progress to work-based learning and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to demonstrate competency through NVQs/CBQs. Progression to further learning within the FE sector is also possible and there are many qualifications available to learners that offer them a broad choice of options.
Level 2 Occupational Studies
The current Level 2 Occupational Studies expire on 31 October 2013. We’re currently in the process of working on the replacement qualifications and will be in touch soon to confirm the go-live date.
