Monday 28 April 2014
All Awarding Organisations will be making the following changes to the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas for the Children and Young Peoples Workforce:
Level 2 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce
The following mandatory units will be removed from the qualification from 1 September 2014:
- Paediatric Emergency First Aid (F/600/2036)
- Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury (J/600/2037).
This amendment will mean that the qualification will have to be re-regulated as a new qualification, and it will have a new qualification number.
Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce
From 1 September 2014 no Awarding Organisations will be able to offer the Early Learning and Childcare pathway and the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce will only have the following 2 pathways:
- Social Care
- Learning and Development Support Services.
The new version of these qualifications will be available for learner registrations from 1 September 2014.
From September learners will be expected to take a new Early Years Educator qualification.
Apprenticeships
Due to the changes required to both the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas, the revised qualifications will have to be put into the apprenticeship frameworks from September 2014. This won’t affect existing learners, just new apprenticeship learners from that date.
There may therefore be a gap in apprenticeship provision at Level 3 for Early Years from September 2014. A revised Early Years apprenticeship is being designed under Phase 2 of the Government’s Apprenticeship Trailblazer projects.
