V Certs: Returning the external assessment work for 19 January – 2 April marking window

Thursday 05 March 2015

For any learners that are sitting the external assessment in the current marking window, please remember that all completed external assessment work must be returned to NCFE no later than 2 April. Any work received after this date may not be marked.

What needs to be returned to NCFE by 2 April?

  • Completed learner work - this includes work completed during the preparatory period (if applicable) and work completed during the timed period.
  • Signed learner front cover sheet.
  • Signed Invigilator’s register.

For each learner included on the register you need to indicate whether:

  • The learner attended the assessment (tick yes or no).
  • If the learner had any reasonable adjustments.
  • The number of hours that has been spent on the timed element of the assessment.
  • The date that the assessment was completed.

The external assessment papers don’t need to be returned to NCFE. Centres can keep hold of these and use them as practice papers to help learners  prepare for future external assessments.

Examiner visits

For qualifications which have an Examiner visit, the external assessment itself needs to have been completed by 2 April however, the completed external assessment work is not returned to NCFE. The external assessment work needs to remain at your centre for your visiting Examiner to grade.

The visit from your Examiner must take place after the external assessment has been completed and it must be carried out by 1 May.

Centres are required to take a copy of the Invigilators Register. The original Invigilators Register needs to be completed and returned to NCFE. The copy needs to remain with the learners work and your Examiner will look at this on their visit.

Your Examiner visit date should now be booked in, if it isn’t or you aren’t sure when it’s happening, please contact NCFE by emailing [email protected] or calling 0191 239 8000.

Results release date

A date for your diaries is the 20 May as this is the latest date the external assessment results will be released! If you entered your learners late in the marking window there may be a delay to your results. If this is the case NCFE will contact you directly to make you aware of this.

Booking in moderator visits

Any internal unit grades need to be assessed, internally moderated, submitted to the NCFE Portal and then externally moderated by NCFE. In order for external moderation to take place, we’d advise you to contact your External Moderator well in advance of submitting internal unit grades. Just to be safe, we’d say to contact your External Moderator 4-6 weeks before you need a visit, so that a date can be put in your diaries and your moderator’s availability can be confirmed well in advance.
