Following our December update on the outstanding qualifications for the 2017 performance tables.
We wanted to give you the latest update from the Department for Education (DfE) on the qualifications that we’ve been waiting to hear back on.
V Cert in Engineering Studies
We are pleased to confirm that the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Studies (601/4532/8) has now been approved for inclusion in the list of vocational qualifications that will count in the 2017 Key Stage 4 performance tables. So this year we now have 3 new Level 2 V Certs confirmed as available for approval and registration in September 2015. To view them all please visit our qualification page.
V Certs in Computer Technology
We told you that the NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Computer Technology (601/ 0492/2) and the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Computer Technology (601/0042/4) has not been approved for the 2017 Key Stage 4 tables. Although we’ve appealed to the DfE against this, the decision is remains unchanged. If you’re already approved for these qualifications we will be sending more detailed information on what this might mean for your pupils and school within the next 24 hours.
Please remember that the Computer Technology qualifications will remain valid on the 2016 tables.
These qualifications have not been approved on the 2017 list because the content of them overlaps with the new GCSE in Computer Science Similar qualifications from all awarding organisations have faced the same outcome.
NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Music Technology
Following further consultation with the DfE, the NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Creative Studies: Music Technology (501/1234/X) has not been approved for the 2017 tables. This is due to the optional content of the qualification falling outside of the DfE’s criteria for inclusion within the 2017 Key Stage 4 performance tables. This is disappointing but we’re looking at what we can do to address this for next year’s qualification developments. In the meantime, the Level 1 Music qualification will still count in the 2015 and 2016 Key Stage 4 performance tables. The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Creative Studies: Music Technology (600/6904/1) is unaffected and will count in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 tables.
New Level V Certs approved
We’re pleased to confirm that the DfE have approved the following additional Level 1 V Certs for the 2017 KS4 performance tables:
- NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Food and Cookery (601/4661/8)
- NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Health and Fitness (601/4662/X)
