Vocational achievement on the rise

More learners than ever are achieving Level 3 vocational qualifications, while the number of learners taking A Levels has fallen. The number of learners earning Level 3 vocational qualifications by the age of 19 rose by 0.8% in 2015 to 18.4%, representing an increase of more than 15% over the previous 10 years. In contrast, the number of learners studying A Levels has fallen by 0.3%; this is the first time the number has fallen since 2008.



GCSE and A Level ICT set to be scrapped

The government has recently announced it intends to scrap GCSE and A Level qualifications in ICT. Schools Minister Nick Gibb is believed to have summoned the British Computing Society (BCS) to fight to save the qualifications, before taking his final decision.



A-Level results day - what's next?

It’s A Level results day and as we speak, thousands of young people around the UK are either celebrating top grades or commiserating over unexpected or disappointing results. This year, the proportion of top A Level grades has fallen marginally, with A* and A grades being awarded to 25.9% of entries, down from 26% last year. However, passes have risen by 0.1 percentage point in a year of “stable” results. Meanwhile, record numbers of young people have been accepted onto university courses according to Ucas.
