Back in December 2011, I told you about our plans to redevelop a selection of vocational qualifications so that they’re in line with the new Department for Education (DfE) criteria. To recap on this, the qualifications we’re redeveloping are:

Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music Technology

Level 2 Certificate in Interactive Media

Level 2 Certificate in Performance Skills

Level 2 Certificate in Art and Design.

Level 2 Award in Graphic Design

I’m pleased to tell you that the redevelopment is so far progressing as planned. We hope to hear from the DfE as to whether the qualifications will be appearing on the approved list by the end of this month.

Of course, our existing qualifications will continue to be available to learners who finish Key Stage 4 in summer 2013 and will show in the 2013 Performance Table.

The 5 qualifications being re-developed, have been given a grace year. Each of the 5 qualifications will be equivalent to 1 GCSE (for those learners who finish KS4 in 2014). After this, only qualifications which appear on the DfE list, published in November 2012, will have performance points attached. This will be reflected in the 2015 tables. You can read more about these changes on our 14 -16 web page.

Even after this date, all of our existing vocational qualifications will still be available to help engage and develop your pupils in school. To find out more information simply email us at [email protected] or call our Centre Support team on 0191 239 8000. You can also visit our website at www.ncfe.org.uk.

I'd also like to remind you of some key dates for your diary. Our series of regional events will be starting in the new year, bringing you key information, support, advice. The confirmed dates are as follows:

York 30 Jan 2013

Birmingham 12 Feb 2013

London 1 March 2013

We do hope to see you there!

Best wishes

David Grailey

NCFE Chief Executive
