Sport England are giving FE and sixth form colleges the chance to bid for a share of £5.8 million from their Further Education Activation Fund, an investment of the National Lottery.

The aim is to encourage participation in sport in colleges, and the fund will help colleges with the design and delivery of projects tailored to their students. This comes at a time where college students have the lowest sports participation rates of learners aged 16 and over.

The projects submitted to Sport England will need to cover the areas of 'Student Need', whereby students will be consulted before the project is created and will have an input in the desired outcome of the project, and 'The right offer for more students', meaning the projects should be an attractive prospect to students and include a variety of activities to cater to a wide range of students.

The funding is not a one-off but is rather part of Sport England's £1 billion five-year Youth and Community Strategy, which aims to increase participation in sport amongst young people.

We support this initiative and believe sport and activity is crucial to a healthy lifestyle. What's more, if you're a centre delivering one of our following qualifications, you'll have a great opportunity to apply for a portion of this fund and further enhance your centre's sporting activities and facilities:

NCFE Level 1 Award in Sport and Leisure (QCF)

NCFE Level 1 Award in the Principles of Coaching Sport (QCF)

NCFE Level 1 NVQ Award in Sport and Active Leisure (QCF)

NCFE Level 2 Award in the Principles of Coaching Sport (QCF)

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Preparations for Coaching Sport (QCF)

We'd love to know if you have applied for the funding, and if you're successful! You can find more information and apply here. Be quick, the closing date for applications is January 2014!
