This month news broke about the proposed Department for Education (DfE) changes to Level 3 qualifications delivered to 16-19 year olds. So I thought it would be a good opportunity to share this news and our own response to this with you.
The DfE proposal is that in order for Level 3 qualifications to be counted in league tables, they’ll have to meet a number of requirements, depending on whether they are ‘Applied General’ or ‘Occupational’.
Quality and rigour are very important to us here at NCFE. Supporting learners to reach their full potential is at the heart of everything we do. Therefore, we’ll be working with the Department throughout the consultation process to find workable solutions that will best support learners to achieve success. If you’d like to view the consultation then you can read this here.
I firmly believe that in education, there is no such thing as one size fits all; no single means of learning will ever suit every individual. Therefore, we need to ensure that the new proposals don’t limit young people’s options. Learners should still be recognised for a broad range of skills. Our regular news items show the true value of vocational qualifications in helping children and young adults from all walks of life.
We offer a large variety of nationally recognised, high quality qualifications in a number of diverse sector areas including Arts, Media and Publishing, Business, Administration and Law, Health, Public Services and Care, Leisure, Travel and Tourism, Preparation for Life and Work, Retail and Commercial Enterprise. These qualifications continue to help hundreds of thousands of students every year. Most recently we’ve launched our V Certs for 14-16 pupils, a direct response to the DfE’s overhaul for Level 2 qualifications.
We’ll keep you posted on the DfE developments as they happen but in the meantime if you’d like to find out about our current list of qualifications for schools then please email us at [email protected] or visit the other pages here on the NCFE website.
