As we’re all aware, GCSE equivalency plays an important role in many learners’ lives by giving them access to vocational subjects which they can excel in by demonstrating the skills they perform best at.
Following on from the government’s changes to these courses and key recommendations by Professor Wolf on 14-19 studies, NCFE decided to create our own new suite of qualifications: V Certs. From September 2013 most vocational qualifications have ceased to hold GCSE equivalency so will no longer count towards your school’s performance tables.
V Certs have proved a popular choice by many centres in offering learners a variety of creative subjects to choose from whilst guaranteeing them GCSE equivalency. This academic year is the last available for centres running the V Cert predecessor qualifications who wish to be awarded points for those students completing one of the courses at the end of year 11 in 2014.
The tables below detail which NCFE qualifications are eligible for performance points for the next 3 years.
The first table shows the NCFE level 2 predecessor qualifications which are eligible for points for the final time (in the 2014 performance tables). If any of your learners are currently studying any of these NCFE Level 2 qualifications (in the bottom half of the table) 2014 will be the last year your centre can claim performance points for them. These qualifications will still exist and be available to run however your centre will no longer be able to claim for points should any learners study these qualifications.

The V Cert qualifications which we have developed in line with the Department of Education’s vocational criteria for the 2015 and 2016 performance tables can be viewed in the table below.
V Certs offer your students the opportunity to continue studying a vocational subject whilst guaranteeing your school points and a place within the Key Stage 4 league tables.
