More funding updates

As we continue to update you on the latest developments with the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and the new funding rules for 2014-15, I have further news to share.

Over 5,000 adult vocational courses are set to be cut in order to simplify and streamline the adult skills system in England; with approximately £200m of the department’s adult skills budget now be re-directed towards what the Government considers to be the `most relevant` qualifications.

NCFE agrees that funding should of course be focused around qualifications of quality and rigour which is why we were pleased that the qualifications we recently submitted through the SFA exceptions process were successful in their appeal.

However, I wanted to let you know about a recent development we’ve been made aware of surrounding the SFA exceptions process and the qualifications mentioned above.

The qualifications which have been successful in their appeal will be fully funded for the remainder of this academic year; however we’ve been informed by the SFA that for the academic year 2014-15 these qualifications are not classed as full qualifications and therefore will only be part-funded.

As curriculum planning is becoming a priority now and over the course of the next few months, NCFE is working alongside the SFA and to secure the most suitable course of action to limit the impact this will have on you, our customers.

We’re evaluating all of the information available to us and we’ll make sure to let you know as soon as we have further details.

And remember the qualifications which remain unaffected by the funding changes such as our Apprenticeships and our units are available for individual registration and certification.

In the meantime if you’ve got any questions about the SFA funding changes, you can call our dedicated team on 0191 239 8000 or email [email protected] – we’d be more than happy to help! You can also leave a comment here on the Blog to let us know what your thoughts are.
