‘The relevance of enterprise in education’ is Lord Young's third and final report on the importance of entrepreneurial spirit in education. The report is the latest in a series of moves from the government to make sure that young people leave education prepared and ready for the world of work.

The review, aimed at all stakeholders in the world of education, contains a number of recommendations which encourage a more enterprising approach to learning. One proposal is that students should be able to rank university courses by their employment rates and earning potential.

Other proposals in the report include the introduction of a new Enterprise Passport (a digital record of all extra-curricular and enterprise-related activities that students take part in throughout their education) and a new national volunteer network of Enterprise Advisers co-ordinated by LEPs, working closely with school heads.

At NCFE, we support many of the proposals within the report, in particular the Enterprise Passport which we believe will help young job seekers to differentiate themselves in the competitive labour market.

NCFE offers a number of practical qualifications which help people to build up their motivation, confidence and business skills in a practical, worthwhile way. For example, our Enterprise suite of qualifications.

How important do you think it is that enterprise is worked into the curriculum? Do you think it should it be actively studied or kept as an extra-curricular activity? What do you think about Lord Young’s recommendations? We’d like to hear from you!
