Today (10 June) we’ll be celebrating the eighth annual VQ Day (Vocational Qualification Day), which highlights vocational achievement and the many benefits of practical and vocational learning.
Here at NCFE we’re strong supporters of VQ Day, because it provides a platform to give vocational learning – which has long been a robust alternative option to traditional academia for many learners – the recognition it deserves in the education sector.
We’re passionate about creating opportunities for learning and achievement for people of all ages – not everyone is suited to the typical academic route and one size doesn’t fit all. Vocational learning has never been so important to both individuals and the economy – high quality vocational courses lead to proven employment opportunities, as they deliver the trained employees businesses are looking for and provide individuals with the skills they need to succeed.
You’ll likely have heard the government’s pledge to create three million Apprenticeships – this is great news for learners, as they can earn while they learn, achieve meaningful qualifications and gain experience, and best of all, the majority of apprentices (85%) will stay in employment. The government’s increased investment in vocational routes is also very welcome as it’s an acknowledgement of their value.
Vocational qualifications really can enhance the lives of learners of all ages and their chance of getting into work. These don’t always have to be a full Apprenticeship or qualifications with high guided learning hours either; awareness qualifications are very popular and can help learners top up their knowledge. Qualifications such as Substance Misuse Awareness and Alcohol Awareness can help learners prepare for different and sometimes difficult situations that may occur both in their personal and professional lives.
