Looking forward to summer

It’s that time when the academic school year begins to draw to a close – I’m sure you’re all looking forward to a well-earned break over the summer.

However, the hiatus doesn’t need to mean a break from learning altogether and in fact provides a great opportunity to run short qualifications with relatively low Guided Learning Hours, which can help get your pupils ready for life and work and educate them on important Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) topics.

For summer school sessions, which are becoming increasingly popular, we offer short qualifications across a range of subjects and sectors, including Personal and Social Development, Sports and Leisure, Health and Social Care, and Travel and Tourism.

We also have short courses that can prepare your pupils for their future career, by developing their CV skills, growing their enterprising skills and supporting your careers guidance approach. Our Level 1 Award in CV Writing, for example, has just 20 Guided Learning Hours so is ideal for running as a short summer school programme, and boosts pupils’ chances of gaining employment by providing them with the knowledge required to produce the perfect CV.

Further enhancing these qualifications is our range of free interactive resources which include short films, tutorials and animations to make life easier for you in delivering them.

If you’d like to know more about these and other short qualifications for schools from NCFE then you can visit the Schools section of our website or email [email protected] for more information.

I hope that our monthly e-newsletters have been an enjoyable read and a useful update on the key topics relating to vocational study in schools this academic year. Have a relaxing summer break and I look forward to continuing to keep you informed from September onwards.
