It’s the time of year when many of us make New Year’s resolutions with the best of intentions for the next 12 months, such as to save more money, exercise more, eat more healthily or travel to new places.

According to a recent ComRes poll, the fifth most popular resolution is to learn a new skill or hobby. While it’s encouraging that so many people aspire to step outside their comfort zone and learn something new, this is unfortunately a resolution that’s quite often broken, whether this is due to lack of time, financial constraints or simply other things taking priority in our already busy lives.

In our sector, we see the impact that continual education has in upskilling learners and helping them progress in their careers and lives all the time, so we’re big supporters of lifelong learning here at NCFE. We believe you can enhance your current skillset or start something completely new at any age and no matter what level you’re at.

If you’re looking for inspiration, take a look at our Directory. From art and design and photography to event planning and personal training, there are hundreds of courses to choose from. Once you find one you’re interested in, just enter the course name in the search box on our website and you’ll be able to find out where you can study the qualification.

We’d encourage everyone to try and make the time to see this resolution through – while you might be looking to learn something new just for fun, it could end up leading onto various opportunities. The new skills you develop could help you to progress in your current job, or even inspire you to change career, and hopefully you’ll enjoy the learning process too.
