Once again, we’re experiencing a frustrating wait for the update to the Department for Education performance tables, with the possibility that this could be delayed even further thanks to this week’s surprise announcement of a snap general election.

We appreciate that the initial performance tables were released very late, and that this has repercussions when setting out options for your pupils­ or planning the curriculum for next year.

We’re also aware that the tables that have been released, so far, do not show all the qualifications that we’ve submitted. We’ve been reassured that the updated lists will be available soon, although it’s possible that the upcoming snap general election on 8 June – and pre-election purdah period – will delay this further.

The government’s immediate focus will likely now be seeking a mandate to create new grammar schools and potentially dropping the national funding formula, whereas schools would understandably like government to prioritise issues such as teacher recruitment and the £3 billion of cuts schools are expected to make.

We hope we won’t be waiting too much longer for this important performance table update, but we will of course update you as soon as we hear any news.
