We’re delighted to announce that our Level 1 / 2 Technical Award in Engineering has received endorsement from the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE).

SOE is a professional membership organisation representing and supporting around 14,000 individuals and companies within the transport, plant and engineer surveying industries. Alongside their engineering operations, they encourage best practice and Continuing Professional Development among their membership. Their reputation and credibility within the industry adds further weight to the endorsement of our qualification.

Head of Operations at SOE, Daniel Moir, commented on the endorsement:

“SOE are working hard to combat the upcoming skills gap by promoting the exciting opportunities available in the engineering field and encouraging young people to make it their career of choice. It is technical qualifications, such as those from NCFE, which will give learners and apprentices the hands on skills necessary to be successful“.

Current figures from Labour Market Intelligence estimate the level of employment in mechanical engineering to rise, with around 5000 more jobs expected by 2024. With a promising jobs market, the value of technical qualifications such as V Certs, which offer tangible routes into the workplace, is more apparent.

Pending approval from the Department for Education, the new model technical award is part of NCFE’s V Cert offer for schools. The qualification is suitable for learners wishing to pursue a career in engineering, and is designed to provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding of the applied study of good engineering practice and of working in the sector.

Laura Mulligan from Beverley Grammar School, who worked with NCFE during the development stage of the qualification, said:

“Receiving this endorsement from SOE not only provides recognition of all the hard work which has gone into the development of the qualification – it’s also a strong indication of how the qualification will be received within the industry and the future prospects and potential for learners.”

V Certs are high-quality technical alternatives to GCSEs for 14-16 year olds. Many of our popular subject areas will benefit from the combined Level 1 / 2 V Cert model, which provides schools with a range of benefits, including the option to teach classes of mixed ability.
