We’re delighted to announce that Farnborough Academy in Nottingham have been highly commended as part of our V Cert Aspiration Awards.
The academy deliver a range of NCFE qualifications, including Food and Cookery, Creative Craft, Health and Fitness and Performance Skills, and were awarded the commendation for going above and beyond to help pupils exceed even their own expectations..
For their entry into the awards, the school described their relationship with one pupil in particular. Keynan had such low belief in his ability, he thought there was no reason for him to attend his external assessment. This belief wasn’t however shared by his teachers at Farnborough Academy. They could see the potential in Keynan, even when he couldn’t see it in himself. Their unwavering support and encouragement meant that Keynan did attend his assessment and went on to pass
On receiving the commendation, the Academy commented:
“The award is a great accolade, and celebrates the efforts and achievements of pupils, as well as recognising the teachers who aspire to do the very best for every student they teach.”
CACHE External Quality Assurer Phillip Bell also praised the enthusiasm of the staff after his most recent visit to the Academy, commenting:
“On visiting Farnborough Academy I was blown away with the standard of delivery of V Cert Craft by the school. The staff at the school were bubbling with enthusiasm around the delivery of V Certs, and the very high standard of work from learners showed equal enthusiasm for the subject”.
This year marked the launch of our first V Cert Aspiration Awards, which asked schools and teachers to nominate a ‘Pupil of the Year’ with big aspirations. The scheme was developed to recognise learners who are using V Certs to help them reach their goals and make positive improvements to their life.
Although we selected a different winner overall, it would have been wrong to not recognise the efforts of the teachers at Farnborough Academy, who can share in learners like Keynan’s success. As part of the commendation, Farnborough Academy have been rewarded with £200 towards school resources. They’ve chosen to use that prize allocation to gift craft resources to Keynan which will help him as he goes on to study Craft and Production. This is a testament as to how much they believe in their pupils and want them to go on to do great things.
